The speedo cable mounts to the transfer case. If it were on the trans it would not record the correct speed in lo range. From the speedo it crosses the truck underneath the dash and goes under the top edge of the passenger floor board to the underside of the truck (The floorboard has a notch in it for the cable to pass through). The cable mounts to the transfer case behind the emergency brake drum on the passenger side.
