This is why I like to have an old-fashioned glass-bowl-and-screen filter upstream of the fuel pump. It will catch water and the big crud so it doesn't clog up your regular filter. You can dump it out and clean it as often as necessary. I also like that you can look and see how much crud and water are in there. Some old fuel pumps had them built in. I put one off an army genset on my M37 when I was still trying to get by with the rusty old fuel tank. Even though it was for a 5 kW genset it seems to keep up with the flow rate of the 230.
