The MU was designed for the WW2 1/2 tons only, the location and angle of the mounting is designed for the upward bent frame on the 1/2 ton. The MU-2 was designed for the WW2 3/4 ton with a flat frame and the installation of the risers and cable guides on the front mounting, the MU-3 was designed to lay in the bottom of a flat frame rail and was used on the WW2 internationals, it had no cable guide like the MU-2. As for the declutch lever, early Braden winches all had the lever on the opposite end of the gearbox, the MU-2 was an exception, I believ it had to do with the overall load rating and security of the clutch holding fast under a hard pull.
