I'm examining this third member I plan to swap into my Carryall. At some point someone has put a set of MARS 4.89 gears in it. I find the thrust pad laying loose in the bottom of the housing. I can tell it had been dragging on the back of the ring gear enough to heat it up and scar it. The previous owner said it was run low on gear oil. I can see how lack of lubricant could have caused the friction, but I cannot see how the thrust pad broke free of the adjusting stud? The adjusting stud appears to be in the right spot. How could the thrust pad have jumped loose?
