Elastomeric is similar to epoxy, except it is multi-layered. Epoxy is normally a two part product, hardener, (catalist) plus the base, sometimes an abrasive is also added.
Elastomeric is more commonly used for decking, a fiber base sheet is installed and the product has several layers, it can be up to a quarter inch thick, including base, color and surface sealer. True two part epoxy is several dollars a square foot, elastomeric coatings are about twice that. Neither is chemical, acid, or dent proof, resistant is the key marketing word. A good, professionally installed epoxy floor is pretty tough and stays like that for years. Nearly all of the Lowes-Home Depot, do-it-yourself products are suspect.
