The oil seal in the axle housing behind the bronze bushing is inserted in a direction to seal (hold) back differential lubricant from passing it and entering the knuckle. That seal doing its design job will also hold back grease in the knuckle. However, the seal, mounted in its design direction, is not designed to seal against a fluid going from the knuckle towards the differential. Could Possible cross contamination from the knuckle lube to differential lube, when using lighter lube in the knuckle ???
Dont know, just another observation.
