Here in Michigan, They have Log-Farm plates for trucks that are Supposed to be primarily used for logging, pulpwood, firewood, or farm and or ranch type vehicles. If you own atleast 10 acres, you can qualify for Log-Farm plates. Heck if you work on a farm, you can get them too! Farm truck insurance is cheap as well, and some insurance companies here in the country will insure a truck as a "firewood" hauler. With the Log-Farm plates, the truck is to be primarily used to haul things for the farm, run farm errands, and MAYBE make an occasion non-farm, non logging type run. There are lots of guys up here who drive their farm trucks all over the place..it depends on the part of the state you are in how strict they get on this. Heck, You could keep 3 bales of hay in your truck at all times and drive the truck, and they would not question it. If I recall right, farm vehicle registration here is $0.75 Cents per every 100 LB weight of the truck. In some cases, it is cheaper to go with a regular pickup plate. The plates expire in Feburary.

We have 2 diffrent classes for antique plates here, One class is the regular Antique plates which are good for $10 years and cost $35. THe other is called a Vintage place, and offers the same privlidges as the Antique plate, but the plate is to be a restored Michigan Plate from the same year as the vehicle. These cost $35 to register and good for as long as you own the vehicle. With the antique plates, you can drive your vehicle to get it repaired, or to shows, parades, club meets, cruise-ins etc. They used to allow for Sunday drives too, but now they get strict on that.
