The reverse rotation power steering box was not designed for Power Wagons. The steering effort when used on a Power Wagon, in my opinion is way to light. My Pw, My Sons PW and my Carryall all suffered from this lack of feel. On my Power Wagon, I could run the wheel all the way to one side. Then with my little finger, spin the wheel all the way to the other lock with no effore what so ever.
I contacted AGR Performance Power Steering in Fort Worth. They said its a known problem when changing the saginaw box to another type vehicle. I was told that they would totally rebuild the Saginaw Box, change the internal valve to a #210 and change the ratio to 20:17. They said it would then have the road feel of a present day 1 ton pickup. They also guarantee the box for 1 year. Back when I did my PW and my sons PW the cost was $150 for the above mentioned work. Now its gone up to $200.
I must say that the 2 PW's I have done have road feel equal to my 2003 Ram. I drove my PW for about a week before I decided that the lack of road feel was, in my opinion, dangerous. I pulled the box, sent it to AGR and am thrilled with the results. Look them up on the WEB www.agrperformance.com if you call ask for Matt. Matt is the owner and very experienced.
If you dont have a box to send them, they will sell you a totally rebuilt one for a little over $300. I would never do the saginaw PS mod with out having the valving and ratio also changed.
