I don't think John ever said where he lives. It makes a difference. We poured footings and walls for a daylight basement, 60' x 60' x 10'high, last October, backfilled and left over winter until last week of February. We brought in a backhoe, removed about 3' of snow and started framing. The basement slab will wait until we have the roof on now, because we presently have load limits preventing hauling concrete, then we will have rain during any or all of March, April, May or June. Next time you pour a big slab in the sunshine, any time of the year, think of us in the far northwest. And, yes, the standard seems to be that if you can walk around on it without tripping over the high spots, it's level enough. :-/
