I use 4 chains ( one over each axle/spring pack by the wheel to the trailer bound with ratchet binders. Then take 4 chains one from each corner of the frame to the trailer bound with ratchet binders. All chains and binders are grade 70 transport rated. Lumber yard chain has no business in this application. The chains over the axles/spring packs do the main job of tie down. The chains from the frame to the trailer stop bounce on the springs. My desire is to tie down my PW well and prevent any danage. My responsibility it to tie down my PW properly, using the proper chains and binders, so it does not come off the trailer and cause a accident or kill someone.
I am not sure if lever/cam type chain binders are legal in all states ??? But you can get a much better tie down with ratchet binders. If you do use lever/cam binders, after they are closed, be sure to safety wire them in the closed position.
