I'm contemplating something similar, but opposite. I've noticed a lot of military restorations look too dark and too flat. I like the way 60-year old OD is faded. I also think the age wears a little bit of luster into the paint.

I'm trying to decide what color to paint my wheels, before I mount up the Michelins. It may be years before I paint the whole Carryall, but I want to get away from the white when I do.

One thing I considered is getting gloss paint mixed to approximate the color of old, faded OD.
