When I first looked through my lists of engine numbers, I found that number to be before some 1948 numbers I had. Then I had second thoughts, as most of the trucks I see are Detroit built, and yours is CA built.
I would need numbers from CA built 48-49 trucks to verify the approximate year that engine was made.
So far every indicator I can think of makes your truck a 1949. It is common for items on the trucks to be from a batch made the year before (rims, etc). I am not sure about the engine, given that it is a T137 motor, I would be willing to bet it is original, or swapped in by a knowledgable person (not likely). Check the underside of the exhaust manifold, there should be a date stamp there, if it is 49, then you most likely have a 1949 engine.
Does anyone else have a 48-49 CA built PW with the original T137 block to use as a comparison?
Eric
