Just as motorcycle hemet manufacturers used to say, if you have a $10 head, get a $10 helmet, buying cheap china junk is an invitation to disaster.
Proper jack stands, installed properly, can be used safely, the most important item to look for is at least a 12 ton rating and a little seal or stamp, that says, MADE in The USA.
