Partitioning might be the way to go if you can live with a small wood shop. My shop is a 20' X '28' pole barn with a 14X12 shed attached. The stove is in the addition so I have the full floor space available except for the benches (24" wide). I've got a trolley set about 11' high with a chain hoist. Couldn't live without that hoist. Tool boxes go on shelves under the benches. TS, and radial arm saw are on casters so I push them away when I'm not using them. I set the work benches along opposite walls. Automotive tools, parts washer, etc are on the north, drills and woodworking stuff are on the south. The wood-working bench is 16+ feet long. I've got an old door I set on a couple of sawhorses for a large glue table when I need one.
I hate having the grinding/torching/welding stuff going on in the same space I cut up wood...have to sweep up every time I want to do a little bit of metal work.
