When I built my shop we had the local Vocation school come out and do the wiring. They do things like that for an onsite, real world, job experience. School got an extreme discount for materials and the instructor said give them money for a pizza party and that would be their pay. Good deal for everyone. Anyway, I had a 100 amp service there allready. He said to upgrade would be in the thousands because we have 2 100 Amp services and they'd want to combine them. One house, one out buildings. He ask me if I was going to have multible people working here. I told him no, just myself. He then went on to say 100 amp is fine as you can't run 2 machines at once. My Plasma pulls 70 amps and the compressor is 35 amp,lights and radio would pull some as well. This is the only situation that might flip a breaker so I just turn off the compressor while cutting. Not that hard to work around.
I you have nothing, by all means go big, Put outlets everywhere so you can always move things around. High ceilings are nice too! Kevin
