Electric Wipers

My son, Brian, has just installed electric wipers (Mighty Wipers) on our '48 PW. The name is definitely a misnomer...they're gutless. Not that we get heavy weather out here, but is there an alternative setup? The truck had an old vacuum unit and an old Dodge electric unit - neither worked. Was the old Dodge unit stronger? I was advised by VPW to only use the Mighty Wiper in light rain - never on a dry windshield.
