On your weatherstrip removal, there are specific advesive removers you can get at most auto parts stores. I would hold off on the gasoline as it is very explosive. In a pinch you can use Diesel fuel but the glue remover is best.
In addition, use a hair dryer to warm the metal the glue is on if it's fairly cool where you are. If it's 90° where you're at it won't be neccesary. Be sure to rub the metal down with some alcohol before you apply the new weatherstrip. I get alcohol rubs at the drug store and just throw them away when I'm done. That makes one less bottle of flammable liquid around.
