The procedure I use for repairing cracks is as follows. 1. grind the crack into a Vee about 1/8" deep. 2. get some 90% nickel fill rod and an air rivit gun. 3. weld about 3/8" at a time before the weld has a chance to cool down hammer it with the rivit gun (this will expand the weld as it cools and keep it from recracking) 4. repeat until crack is compleatly welded. 5. after welding if you have pin holes you can fill them by rubbing them with stick sulpfur while the area is still hot (the sulphur will melt , run into the pin holes and solidify sealing them. I prefer a tig welder for this kind of work its more precise.
