{{the block on my 230 6cyl has been cracked (looks like it was by freezing) and the water jacket is ruptured. the motor runs real good , and i am wanting to know if this crack can be sealed ?
can the motor be saved ? thasnks}} I don't think it's beyond hope. I've fixed cracks before if they aren't into the combustion cylinder and not on the main bearing supports. It sounds like yors is just the water jacket. The best way to fix this is to radius the ends of the crack with a small drill bit and then arc weld it closed. Usually the outer casing of the block is weaker and the pressure will blow out there so the chances are slim the internal passages are busted. It's not a bad idea to go with a lower pressure radiator cap if possible to lessen the chance of another failure. Cahnge the oil after you run it a bit and then about 100 miles later to avoid any slag getting into the oil galleries. If it works, fine, if not, you aren't out much.
