Run the "one wire" to the ammeter and then to the battery terminal on the foot operated starter switch or on the solenoid - which ever you have. If the ammeter reads backwards, switch the leads on the ammeter.
I've been driving MOPARS since 1956 and have not seen an ammeter burn up.
