If I understand right, prolonged idling in neutral caused the Getrag to go bad from lack of lubrication to the bearings. I think towing heavy loads in overdrive was also bad for them.

Was the DTT transmission in your '93 an A727 that had been beefed up to handle the massive torque of your Piers Diesel modified Cummins?
