If we are talking about the same thing, they were made up of angle stock, had a large crank to raise and lower the cable, and a smaller crank to raise and lower the boom, using a chain wound around a small shaft.
The company name was "Manley" and you needed to be "manly" to operate one. They were aesthetically pleasing, as most old hand-operated stuff is, and I'm sure it will enhance the looks of your rig.
I'll bet that there are still a few around in old junk yards. Good luck!
