Paul, it stands to reason that if the object is supported the same distance from the end on each end the weight would be half on each end support, therefore weigh the object on one end and turn it around and weigh it on the other end supporting it the same distance from each end. When the dot weighs a truck they just weigh each axle and add up the weights to get the total weight. Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you.
