The local maintenance office of the electrical utility had a set of these on an early 90’s Dodge extended cab 3/4T 4X4 with a service body on it. It looked REALLY COOL, but the head of vehicle maintenance said it was kind of a disappointment to drive because of its low speed. The drive rollers for the tracks are about the same diameter as a 16” wheel, so the actual ground speed of the vehicle is cut in half. He also found that it didn’t corner very well, and was no fun at all in reverse. They left the tracks on that truck for a couple of years, during which time it was rarely used for anything other than “test drives”. Garnet, the equipment foreman, sent the tracks back to head office with the recommendation that the best use he could think of for them was to tow the company float in various parades: it would look very impressive, and were more suited to that type of low speed application. He figures the track kit is probably still in the warehouse at head office, or may have been sold off as surplus by now.

I wonder if the Mattracks for Quads / ATV’s work any better?
