A half ton truck is not worth getting. That's a thousand pounds of capacity, delete the driver and passenger weight, any children, etc. and that gives you the capacity to carry 4 or 5 bags of cement, not much.
As for brakes, whoever told him that is gm driven or an idiot. The brakes on the new Ram are 30% larger than anything on the market.
