I don't know about a different tire that fits that rim, but get a grooving iron and go to town on the NDT Gamas. Cut the center rib out completely for starters. That will improve your traction about 150% right away. Later you can cut the side bars at an angle so they will self-clean without having to spin the tire at 10000 RPM. I had a set of these on my 1949 and they were awful. No traction at all in snow or anything wet. I didn't really get a chance to try them in deep mud. I bought a set of tire chains for 900x20 tires and cut them down to fit the Gamas. With the ground clearance from the 40" tires and the traction from the chains, my Dodge would go anywhere. I pushed snow in front of the truck until it was rolling over the fenders and I literally ran out of power before I ran out of traction.
I have a set of 38x13x16 Swampers, actually Kurt Hirte has them, I got a great deal on E-bay, Kurt picked them up for me, but I have to scrape together enough $ to get them shipped from Socal to ND.
I didn't know about grooving tires until after I sold the Gamas I had, I think that would really help them out. If you don't want to buy a grooving iron, use a chainsaw, or a grinder with a very corse disc in it. The chainsaw works well, but takes a light touch. Sorry I have no real info for the question you asked!

Check out the M715 Zone on the web if you haven't already! Good forum, not as good as this one, but also probably a good place to sell your Gamas if you go that route.
