My generator had some bad wiring that was causing an intermittent short. I was tired of taking it apart, so I decided to pay 120 to have it "rebuilt". It looked fancy with a new coat of paint. Within four months (I only drive a few miles a month) it was making a terrible sound. Turns out a bearing was shot. Their rebuild consisted of _only_ sand blasting and painting. My short was still there and the sand from the blasting ruined my bearing. I paid $120 just to do it right myself. From now on it's a replacement part (NOS or take off) or I teach myself to do the work.
