I am looking at the current original doors on my 76 dodge powerwagon. And it has come to my attention that the bottom of the doors do not drain water sufficiently which is why they rust out... Duh!
Anyway, I don't think I'm going to mess around with fixing my old doors as they are dent free but have been repaird two or three times, and frankly probly will never last anymore than two or three years without bubbling again. So my conclusion... I have located some Reproduction doors, however I ordered a rocker panel first to look at build quality, and then determine if it's something that I want to ship from the east coast to denver.
But on the Rust prevention piece if the doors are high build quality and I do decide to replace mine with them, then... I am wondering if to prevent future rust outs and water damage problems. I was thinking of drilling a set of small holes in the very bottom of the door, along the bottom, to keep moisture out. Then along the seam at the bottom where the water sits and seperates the steel I was thinking of running a heavy bead of silicone, and then taking a paint brush and spend some quality time undercoating the inside of the brand new doors?? What do you guys think.
