being the past owner of the truck, i know first hand that the shaft isn't hitting the engine. if anything, the pto end of the winch driveshaft - might - rub the the flat bottom portion of the bellhousing. i did not grind the bellhousing, as i planned on installing the new dust shield that i included with the truck. check to see that the slip collar on the shaft has not moved and the locknut is contacting the starter. i think that you will find that the shaft does not hit the engine and you will find a simple adjustment to get it right. as far as cable goes, id speak to a professional outfit (like sam winer motors) - we can find the number - to get advice on the cable. they specialize in winches.
