Well,I bought a 97 Dodge CTD, then a 2001 CTD, and just recently replaced it with a new 2004 CTD. I did not buy the extra warranty ony of them. The Dodge warranty is 3 years, bumper to bumper, and the Cummins warranty is somewhere around 100,000 miles I think. I use the trucks mostly for stop and go driving, pulling a heavily loaded trailer.
I have had a few problems, but they always happened under warranty. For me, the warranty would have been a waste of money. I do think the warranty might be a good idea if you are going to put 20,000 miles or so a year on the truck. At least you could be sure and get maybe three full years with the extended warranty. Also, they have a lot of room to negotiate on those warrantys. If you want one, you can play hardball and usually get 1/2 - 2/3 off the first price they quote you. Good luck.
