Lock Right lockers were originally designed specifically for the M-37 and Power Wagon differentials. This design was then used for other differentials later. I have one in the rear differential of my PW, and I know of several other people who have them installed in their PW's and M-37's. They work pretty well, and seem to be very strong in this application (I've never heard of one failing yet). They are a considerable expense, mostly if you're having a very competent mechanic install it and set it up properly. I wouldn't even consider welding the spider gears on a differential because of the risks of total destruction of a carrier from failures. I also wouldn't install one in the front differential of a PW or M-37, now that I have them in both front and rear differentials of 2 different Scouts. One of the Scouts has been converted to a twin stick transfer case so you can shift the front end in and out of engagement, even in low range, for better turning and reduced drive train wind-up on high traction surfaces. The other Scout needs the twin stick conversion to make it more drivable. It appears that the PW and M-37 transfer cases may be very easily convertible to 'twin stick' use by grinding off the catch dogs on the 2 transfer case levers that prevent the transfer case from being placed in 2 wheel drive low range. I hope this helps you decide what's best for you.
