I was looking at a '71 W100 that I may be obtaining soon and was suprised to find that the front axle's U-joints were enclosed by some sort of casing with fill/drain plugs, etc.
The knuckles also pivoted around some sort of ball and socket joint. Seems like this was to help keep mud/dirt out of the joint area.
This is the first time that I've really studied the underside of one of these trucks and am used to the newer(?) style exposed U-Joints and ball joint/King Pin connected knuckles.
Is this how all '61-'71 Power Wagons are set up? How difficult is it to service the U-joints?
OK, one more question - the NP435 tranny was missing the dust-cover that covers the bottom of the clutch/flywheel/bellhousing area - how hard are these to find? Are these cast iron or just sheet metal?
Thanks,
