With one tire on the ground, the wheel ratio will be half what the gear ratio is. The spider gear is simply an idler in this system, and does not affect the ratio between the two side gears. So if your tire spins almost 2 1/2 times with one turn of the pinion shaft, you have 4.89 gears. Congratulations!
