diesel question??

There's a local add here for a Cummins "4BT" 4 cyl w/ turbo, new in crate, for $3500.00. Is this an appropriate price? Where is it likely that the seller would have picked it up? Isn't this the same engine that everyone wants to put in their M37's & Flat Fenders? Should I buy it even before I even have the truck to put it in? Thanx for any input, Bruce
