If you are going to be replacing pistons anyway, don't bother trying to get them out without damage. Take a big chisel, bust the piston top first, then break apart whatever else you can get to. My experience is that the pistons are very disposable and are probably not usable.
My priority is usually to save the block, crank, connecting rods, in that order.
