Actually it was an offer by a company simular to the recent models offered by the Dansbury Mint. I bought mine in 1970, they were a commemorative model honoring the Bell System
(It was offered to the general public) I think I saw the ad in Popular Science. I think it cost me $24.95 at the time. (I was in high school) It came with an engraved nameplate (with my name) on the front of the marble base.
