There is some variation on 230s and the seals used on them. On my '51 M-37 I dropped the transmission, oil pan and mains to lower the crank enough to get the upper half of the seal out as that piece was bonded to a steel plate retained by three bolts so that it was not possible to rotate the old upper seal out. The clutch must be removed to access the rear main seal. A big job. As the trans and clutch must be removed as well as dropping the pan and crank, whether or not the engine is out of the truck, I am not sure what time/labor savings is to be had by removing the engine from the truck.
