Up here in Canada anyway, the Spitfire was built on the 236/251/265 Chrysler Industrial long block (25+1/4" vs 23+1/4" for the 216/230 short block). Canadian M37s with regular 251s came with both sets of motor mounts from the factory but US trucks with a 230 did not. Twin cast iron exhaust headers were mounted along with a dual carb intake manifold. A reinforced head (with Spitfire logo cast in) was used to handle the higher compressiuon ratio also designed in. The hot rodders also did some further internal tweaking to it to easily produce 140-150 hp vs (I think) 85hp for the 230 or 94hp for a regular Canadian military 251.
Obviously does NOT look stock under an M37 hood but DOES go down the road a little quicker. Robert in Toronto
