Very interesting post dave,
We live up in the CO foothills about 40 miles west of Colorado Springs at 8500'. I work out of a 1-person home office for a NJ-based mapping firm owned by a major defense contractor. I am set up with several hardware / software combinations to do production of digital mapping systems in the areas of stereo photogrammetric compilation and digital orthophotography. My wife is an RN commuting to CS for 3 12-hour shifts per week. We bought a 24'X 24' summer cabin on 15 acres with a pond bordering Pike Natl. Forest and have spent the last 7 years building it into a 1400 sq ft full-time home along with a 2300 sq ft 4-bay garage / barn / shop. Our first choice hobby involves hiking / backpacking / mountaineering / backcountry skiing in the mountains and then after working on the property, the PW comes in at a low-priority 3rd! I'm also a volunteer on our local Northeast Teller County Fire Protection District.
I've enjoyed reading all the other responses to your post, Bruce
