Those that know me and those that recall my posts about brake problems, recall that I've been fighting this for some time.
Poor brakes, air in the lines, empty master cylinder, loss of brake fluid with no visible leaks, etc. Replaced: Master cylinder, leaking wheel cylinder, flex lines. Turned drums, new shoes, bench bled master, etc, etc, etc.
This week I pulled the Midland vacuum booster unit. I have bypassed this unit in the past, with no change in braking performance, and had re-connected it.
I set the booster in a drain pan, and when it tipped to one side about 1/2 gallon of brake fluid poured out. I park my truck on a sloped driveway and the master cylinder is higher that the booster. I guess the seal in the booster slave was shot and fluid simply flowed downhill. I'll pull it apart later to understand the failure better.
I've installed a re-build that I purchased from VPW, and for the first time in, I don't know how many years, I've got solid brakes!!

Mysterious loss of fluid ? Vacuum brake booster? Pull it!
