zinc containing primer

I need to decide what I am going to use to prime my truck. It is a mixture of bare metal and solid original paint. I am thinking of using a zinc containing primer from the local TSC store. This is a buget paint job, but is there any advantage to using the zinc primer instead of regular red oxide primer? A gallon of the zinc primer weighs about 25 lbs! Very heavy stuff.
