Take a look at this Ebay item.
The right headlight has been moved outward several inches to accommodate a single supporting strut that apparently went from the right fender, up to the apex of the A-frame. The support strut fits into a clevis-type socket that is mounted on the right fender, (visible in the last picture)with the socket presumably secured to the truck's frame beneath the fender.
The support is on the right side, because the extended shaft of the winch, used to hold a drum of cable or wire, is on the right side, and that's where most of the stress would be.
I owned a telephone co. PW with wingnuts below both side marker lights, so that two struts could be erected. That's because the telco winch had extended shafts on both ends, for two different types of cable spools, and the winch itself was used to set poles, which required a pair of struts, rather than just one, to balance the winch load.
