When the drywall or plaster job is finished you can quickly wipe the frames off, clean as a whistle. It is also good for squeaky door hinges. The silicone based sprays are not desireable for areas that will later get paint, paint and silicone don't mix. WD40 is also a fair starter fluid/w lubricant ha!ha! So it has several uses, but not as a penetrant.
