If you are talking about a WDX - WM300 type the answer is no. All you need to do is jack up the truck (by placing the jack under the frame at the front of the vehicle). You do not have to jack it up too far. The wheel stays on the ground. Place a jackstand under the frame to support the weight of the vehicle safely. This will allow you more working room and allow the pan to be removed without the oil pickup & screen from preventing removal.
