OT/bought a backhoe today

It's no PW but it's old...early '60s John Deere 1010 dsl garden tractor (that's what they call it in the manual) with loader and hoe. Probably weighs more than 8K lbs. Brakes are bad, but it looks like a simple fix, we'll see. Got a couple of digging projects on the place...if I can keep her running for two weeks it'll have paid for itself. Anybody have experience with these old beasts?
