Today I actually saw a real live working "Gin Pole" It was being used to "High Line" logs up out of a Canyon. It was built just about exactly as described by Mike Stone.
I asked one of the loggers what the thing was called, and he called it a "Gin Pole". They also had a M-35 up there with a hoist on the front, and he called it a "A-Frame" hoist.
So there you go, in my book anyway. Mikey, you were always right!
