In the late 60's I was driving my CJ in the East Mojave. In the BaC days (Before Air Conditioniing) It was fun to drive the Jeep with it's top off with my left foot resting on the fender outside. My left front tire threw up what at first looked to be a stick, the 'stick' wrapped itself around the drivers side mirror at eye level and it was quickly apparent that the stick was a Mojave Green, the most venomous of all Western Rattlers. While the rattler hung there on the mirror for what seemed like an eternity, it was probably only 2 seconds, the snake started to raise it's head towards me, but just as quickly fell off of the mirror stem, down between my leg and the side of the Jeep and onto the ground.
That's the last day that I ever put any part of my body outside of a moving vehicle!!! ha!ha!
