Not all the engineering would be JUST in the fitting of the motor. The drivetrain, such as the axles for one, would have needed to been upgraded. More power and torque = more strain. I agree that it would not have been that much R&D but sales numbers probably couldn't justify it. These trucks when sold were almost double the price of the others at the time( I've been told that)Another $ increase probably wouldn't have been popular.
