If you buy a Cummins H.O. with the 6 speed that is a few years old, the price difference really diminishes. I just did that with an '01. It had only 37k miles, yet was about $10,000 less than a new one. Best of all there is the 100k engine warrantee that transfers. The first time I checked it with city/town driving (unloaded) I got 14 mpg (and I have a 4X4 with aggressive tires). On a trip of 50 miles after picking up 1500# of abrasive, the RPM's stayed the same... 2,000 at 70 mph. Also, the H.O. Cummins and the 6 speed is rated to tow over 13k pounds.
