testing equipment for engine tuning

id like to purchase a handheld tach to tune my old truck 360 dodge and 230 engines. i dont want a cab mounted tach, i want one for undehood use. i have a vacuum gauge and it is helpful, but i need the tach to do it right. i was able to tune my 230 with vacuum gauge and feel, but the 360 4 barrel edelbrock is a little bit harder for me. im using a pertronix equipped dist. does that effect tach operation. who makes a good one as i like to 'invest' in quality tools.
